If you love handmade pottery, you can't go wrong in Kansas City. The Midwest Pottery Fest will be happening during the weekend of the wedding!
The Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden
A free mini-botanical garden that is a real gem in the heart of Kansas City. A favorite spot, even in the winter, to visit the small conservatory full of gardenia, citrus trees, and orchids. Springtime is gorgeous.
River Market Antiques
The best place to get lost (30,000 SF & 4 floors) while looking at antiques, vintage, and sometimes just plain weird stuff.
Jacob L. Loose Park
Loose Park is one of Kansas City's most beautiful parks, with a pond, walking paths, rose garden, and more. We love taking Nova there for walks and picnics.
West 39th Street
Once a really off-beat area of Kansas City, it's still really charming with great places to eat (Meshuggah Bagels, Room 39, Blue Koi, the hilarious Miami Ice), shops (Prospero's Books, Donna's - amazing vintage, where Laura bought her wedding dress), and an artist-run gallery (Smalter Art).
Broadway Café
Great coffee, no BS. A true Kansas City institution - it's been around for what seems like forever, and once drove a Starbucks that opened next door to close.
Westport Cafe
A really romantic spot - french food and great cocktails
Charlotte Street Foundation
The organization Laura gets to work at everyday! Open Saturday 11-5. Check out the library, grounds, and current exhibition of art organized by a local curator.
City Market
Lively farmer's market on Saturdays and Sundays, with great restaurants + shops surrounding. Check out Blue Nile for Ethiopian food, Pigwich for great sandwiches, and Bloom for pastries and bread.
