Laura and Ben first knew each other as acquaintances in the same pediatric residency program with Ben being a year ahead of Laura, but their first interaction really began a year earlier. While Laura was a fourth year medical student and on an away rotation in pediatric heme/onc at the University of Louisville, Ben noticed her white coat with “D.O.” embroidered on it and introduced himself. As a fellow D.O., he warmly offered his help with anything she might need—a small but thoughtful gesture that left a lasting impression on Laura. A couple of years later, they found themselves at a mutual friend's birthday party and finally had the chance to really talk. The night was filled with laughter and easy conversation, and soon after, Ben began asking Laura on dates. As they spent more time together, they quickly realized how much they had in common—and that this was the beginning of something truly special.
