Buda Castle, formerly also called the Royal Palace and the Royal Castle, is the historical castle and palace complex of the Hungarian kings in Budapest. This is Laura's favorite place as it has a stunning view of Budapest.
The Halászbástya or Fisherman's Bastion is one of the best known historical monuments in Budapest, located near the Buda Castle, in the Várkerület. Since 1987, it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Várkerület District. The seven towers symbolizing Hungarian chieftains, and unparalleled panoramic views of the Danube River, Buda Castle, and the Hungarian Parliament.
Just across from Fisherman’s Bastion stands one of Budapest’s most beautiful and iconic landmarks, the Coronation Church of Buda, also known as Matthias Church. Located in Holy Trinity Square at the heart of the Buda Castle District, this stunning Catholic church is rich in history and architectural beauty. It also holds special meaning for us, as this is where Laura was baptized as a child, making it a deeply personal and cherished place.
Overlooking the Danube, the Hungarian Parliament Building is one of Budapest’s most breathtaking and recognizable landmarks. With its grand Neo-Gothic architecture and striking riverside location, it is often considered one of the most beautiful parliament buildings in the world. St. Stephen’s Basilica is one of Budapest’s most impressive and beloved landmarks, known for its grand dome and beautiful interior. The Chain Bridge is one of Budapest’s most iconic landmarks and holds a special place in our hearts as Laura and Ben’s favorite bridge in the city. Gracefully connecting Buda and Pest across the Danube, it offers stunning views both day and night. The bridge has a powerful history as well - it was destroyed during World War II and later beautifully rebuilt, standing today as a symbol of resilience, unity, and renewal. A walk across the Chain Bridge is truly a must-see experience in Budapest.
Széchenyi Thermal Bath is one of Budapest’s most famous and beloved attractions, known for its grand architecture and relaxing outdoor pools. Located in City Park, it offers a truly unique experience, especially when soaking in the warm waters surrounded by beautiful historic buildings. While Széchenyi itself dates back to the early 20th century, Budapest’s rich bathing culture has deep roots in the Turkish era, when thermal baths became an essential part of life in the city. Visiting a thermal bath is a wonderful way to unwind and experience a tradition that has been cherished in Budapest for centuries.
