Howie's on La Crosse was one of our favorite local bars and restaurants to go to while we attended UW-La Crosse. We'd visit Howie's far too often for their amazing 2 for 1 beer happy hours and food. A few of our favorite apps and food menu items include their nachos, cheese curds, burgers, buffalo chicken salad. and Saturday/Sunday build your own bloody mary bar! Fun fact, we named our dog after Howie's because we loved this place and the name so much!
Bodega is a fun place to grab a beer (and/or some food). They are well known for having over 400 beers and usually 20 different taps which rotate frequently! Bodega is located downtown La Crosse, near the wedding festivities and hotels!
The Pearl. . . say no more! This is a must visit place, especially if you are an icecream or sweets lover! The pearl is well known in La Crosse for their homemade icecream, waffle cones, and old style service. Don't be scared if there is a line out the door, this is normal for them and they will move you through the line quickly, plus it's well worth the wait! Laura's favorites are Mississippi Mud (for chocholate lovers) and Maple Walnut and Beau's favorite is Snapping Turtle!
The Charmant is the first boutique hotel in La Crosse! They have a indoor restaurant, coffee shop, and rooftop terrace that specializes in gourmet food and spirits! Definitely recommend a drink on the rooftop terrace if they weather is good to have some of the best views of La Crosse!
For anyone that is a martini lover, we recommend heading upstairs to Starlite Lounge, well known as a 50's style cocktail lounge with specialty martinis. For those looking for amazing food, Buzzard Billies is the place. Our favorite dish is their Chicken Alfredo. For those gluten free, they have great options!
One of our favorite family-owned places for a quick sandwich, soup, and/or salad! Some of our favorite menu items include Numero Uno and That's Italian sandwiches and Cream of Chicken with Wild Rice and Broccoli Cheddar soups!
One of our favorite local places to eat breakfast. If you have a hangover Sunday morning, we'd highly suggest hitting up this classic family restaurant on your way out of town. Great food, wonderful family service! We recommend any of their skillets!
Fun and unique place well-known for breakfast in downtown La Crosse. The Breakfast Club and Pub is decorated with Breakfast Club and John Hughes decor and quotes that wouldn't be complete without 80's music playing throughout the restaurant. They are known for a Molly-Mosa which has pop-rocks on the rim for a fun twist!
La Crosse is well-known for the beautiful bluffs. If you are looking for an active walk, there are many trails to hike up the bluff for beautiful views (just make sure you stay on the trail - for all of you that don't know Laura once took Beau's parents off trail and it didn't end well but everyone was okay!). For those not looking for an active walk, you can drive to the top of grandads bluff and walk out on flat terrain for amazing views of the bluffs and the entire city!
