The historic boyhood home of Mark Twain! Hannibal has a cute little main drag. If you have a whole afternoon to kill, consider a trip to the Mark Twain Cave. Keep in mind that while you may have heard an Oakley tell you Hannibal is "right across the river from Quincy", it's about a 25-30 minute drive.
There are many lovely parks in Quincy. Washington Park and Clat Adams Park are within walking distance of the Atrium. Some of Quincy's best and oldest parks extend along the river on Quincy's west side. If you want to explore them all by car (termed "squigging" by the Oakley's from the squiggly roads), hit them up south to north: South Park, Indian Mounds Park*, Woodland Cemetery (David's resting place is in the Oakley plot in the cemetery's North East corner), Riverview Park, Sunset Park (as its name suggests this is the best place in town for a sunset), Gardner Park and Parker Heights Park. *Indian Mounds Park has a scenic view of the Mississippi River and has some of the best preserved Native American Indian Burial Mounds in the country. A walking timeline extends along the road north of the pool that tells the story of the region from the end of the last ice age until the European settlement.
The Fuzzy Bubbler is a great spot with well-curated beer and whiskey selections. If you're looking for a light bite, check out their artisan charcuteries.
