How We Met

The year: 2017. The location: Miami in Oxford, Ohio. Specifically, the porch of the house lovingly-nicknamed “Red Porch District.” On that hammock of that porch slept Adam, a senior graduating in two weeks who had shoulder-length hair. He was spotted through the window by Laura, a junior who also had shoulder-length hair. “Ah, my future husband,” is not a thought that ran through Laura’s mind. And yet, shockingly, Laura invited this stranger into her home for a cup of Keurig coffee (Adam’s favorite). The two parted ways, and didn’t exchange numbers. So they weren’t in contact when Adam moved to Chicago. But months later, Adam returned to Miami for homecoming weekend — specifically to the Brick Street dance floor — where he bumped into Laura (this time with short hair). From that night on, they were texting “on the regular” and frequently planning trips to see each other, many of them in Columbus where Adam traveled for work. Laura would make the two hour drive from Oxford to Columbus on Tuesday nights for a dinner date with Adam. The first date was at Mikey’s Late Night Slice and that was also the spot future Adam would pop the question! Eventually, Laura graduated from Miami and decided to move closer to Adam — just kidding, she moved to New York City! The long-distance dating continued for another year — which included many fun weekends exploring NYC. During this time, Adam was nearly spending more weekends in NYC than Chicago. After a year, Laura decided to move to Chicago (for real this time) where she moved into another beloved apartment building with friends, conveniently down the street from Adam’s Chicago abode. A year later, the two found their first apartment in Lakeview (Chicago), a cozy apartment right next to the lakeshore path, and lived there until 2020 when they moved to Los Angeles together for Adam to attend business school. Three years later, they’re happily living in a 100 year old house in Culver City (with a great yard for dinner parties as seen below) amongst friends from business school and anxiously awaiting celebrating this new chapter with all of you in Tennessee (specifically Laura’s hometown)!
