Before the Proposal

We met in the fall of 2014. I was a senior in High School, and he was a Sophomore in College. He was working at Dairy Queen part-time in Lincoln, and I was working part-time at the one in Crete that just happened to be owned by the same person. My new manager was a close friend of his at the time, and she introduced us. We've been inseparable ever since. We like to say it was truthfully love at first sight. It was December 19, 2014 when we went on a walk through the Sunken Gardens after our first "official date." Unfortunately the lights were not on (so it didn't go as planned) but he had taped "Will you go out with me?" in duct tape on the steps. It was a very memorable night because I remember thinking that this was going to be my forever. Since then we've been through 2 apartments, a house, and own a dog together! We've even followed each other from Dairy Queen to Honda of Lincoln--

The Proposal

Spencer and I have talked about getting married (quite a bit actually) so I knew that something would be coming relatively soon. In early April of 2019 we went to Chicago for the first time on a whim. An amazing trip, but no proposal. The following weekend we had family pictures for the first time. Once again an amazing experience, but no proposal. The following weekend I entered into his church (that I've been preparing for for 7 months) and I was sure there would be something that night. But nope, no proposal! I didn't worry because I knew that it would be happening when we were ready. It was that Wednesday someone from our work told me I needed to stand up front for a video to do a drawing (at Honda of Lincoln we give away a lawn mower and grill each week for about a month). I did not want to be in the video but I went up there. The whole staff was up there watching-- I kept asking why everyone was there but they assured me it was normal because they need to applause when the name is drawn. Sure enough we pull the "name" out of the bin and hand it to my manager. Who then hands it to Spencer-- (Where did he come from?!) Spencer supposedly can't read it so hands it to me. Not thinking twice because we are live on Facebook, I took the card and read the words "Laura, will you marry me?" Spencer is there, on one knee with the entire dealership applauding us. Of course I said yes! Best part is that we now have pictures and videos to look back on and watch as many times as I want! And a family at our work who got to be apart of it all!

For all the days along the way
