We're getting married!

Thirteen years ago, two UC Santa Cruz banana slugs squiggled past redwood trees straight into each other’s hearts. From that first gooey glance to years of slow-and-steady love, they’ve been gliding through life side by side. And now, after more than a decade of sticking together, they’re finally tying the knot! Please join them for a day full of love, laughter and lots of banana-sweet moments as these college sweethearts embark on their greatest adventure yet: marriage!

In 2023, Kevin and I attempted to hike one of the highest peaks on the island of Oʻahu, Mount Olympus (ʻAwaʻawaloa). Rising over 2,400 feet above sea level, the arduous mountain is known for its steep inclines, rock climbing sections and unpredictable wet weather. We barely made it halfway before turning back. The trail was too challenging for us at the time, and we promised ourselves we’d try again one day. Fast forward to 2024. Determined (and maybe a little bit stubborn), we set out to finish what we started. After three grueling hours of uphill trekking through knee-deep mud, narrow ridgelines, and wild, relentless wind and rain, we finally made it to the summit, exhausted, muddy, and breathless. We sat down just to keep from being blown off the mountain and looked out over the beautiful island. That’s when Kevin turned to me and casually asked if I wanted a snack. But instead of trail mix, he reached into his backpack and pulled out a ring! Right there, at the summit we once thought we’d never reach, he asked me to marry him. With shaky, muddy hands, I said yes. And then of course, I asked for the snack. Because we still had a mountain to climb back down!!
