We met in the hospitality room at the Suez Court ball weekend. During the hospitality I gave him a flyer to my courts ball that was taking place that November of 2016. Later that evening while hanging out in the courtyard of the hotel I was dancing to Michael Jackson's Butterflies and he was admiring my moves.
Heading out to an event I thought former president Obama was going to be at, we proceeded to go to my sister-in-laws house who had agreed to watch my 8 year old son Langston while we were out. Once we arrived at my sister-in-laws house to drop Langston off, Everett turned to me and said let’s “grab a drink”. Staring at Everett with a dazed and confused look, I replied “Where are we going to get a drink? We are running late and need to go”! Everett knows how anal I can be when it comes to punctuality. Nevertheless, he ignored my rationale and insisted that we grab a drink. He took my hand and walked me into my sister-in-law’s backyard. I always loved my sister-in-law’s backyard because it sits right on this gorgeous lake with a beautiful view of a sunset. As I opened her gate, with frustration I couldn’t believe what I had seen. There was a runner covered in rose petals, flanked by glowing tiki torches wrapped in roses that led the way to lake deck. We walked to the deck awning where he had a chilled bottle of Dom Perignon, and two flute glasses. Everett popped the cork and poured me a glass to which I said “this is nasty”. We both laughed and then Everett asked me “do you remember the first thing I said to you when we met''? I replied “No”! Still completely oblivious to what was taking place, I then asked Everett, “Can we finish this up, we have an event to get to”? Everett smiled but kept his composure and asked me again “Do you remember what I first said when we met''? I began to look aimlessly around the backyard and noticed my entire family deck, and then noticed my nephew in the water with a camera. I kept asking myself “what is everyone doing”? Everett took my hand and said “LaTanya, do you remember”? I replied “yes, you said I was going to play on your team one day”. Everett smiled and said “that’s right”. He then got on his knee and said “will you officially play on my team and marry me”? Filled with excitement, shock, and tears I happily said “Yes''!
