Traditions practiced during the ceremony include the participation of the starosty (elders) which preside as official witnesses and hold icons of Christ & the Mother of God during the service, the use of the rushnyk (embroidered cloth), and crowning. Guests generally stand throughout the ceremony and there is a room near the back of the church where visitors with limited mobility may sit in the pews, observe the ceremony through tinted glass, and listen to the procession via speakers installed in the room that are linked to microphones placed in the sanctuary.
