It was the summer of 2008. Shonda had just graduated from George Mason University, Waskin from Norfolk State University, and they were fresh adults figuring life out in a recession. Shonda was out for a night on the town with her friend, Jessica and Waskin was with his homeboy, A.J. at Sevens on Granby Street in Downtown Norfolk. Shonda (the social butterfly) nudged Waskin to spark up a random conversation. Waskin misunderstood what Shonda was saying, and it turned into a really clever way for him to escort her to her car at the end of the night. Before parting ways, Waskin asked Shonda on their first date. From then until now, they have grown so much. From a recession to a global pandemic, their love has prevailed. God's timing is always the best timing. "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord."-- Proverbs 18:22
Waskin took Shonda out for a nice brunch in the city. As they walked along the path to the National Gallery of Art, Shonda couldn’t help but point out to Waskin that the fellas must’ve been raving over the NFL games because they were "blowing up" his cell phone. Little did she know, that buzzing was coming from the surprise inside. Shonda was busy admiring the palatial ceilings and gorgeous marble columns. Her friends, Anna and Larry peeped their heads out first... and then came the family LaVah, Krystie, LaKeesha, their nieces, Jordyss and JayceLynn. She turned to Waskin, and he popped the question. Shonda was overcome with emotion, but she managed to say, “Yes I will!” A MESSAGE FROM THE COUPLE: That was such a special day for us. Thanks for helping me pull off the surprise for Shonda! We can’t wait to celebrate with you all on 10.10.2021!
