We met in 2014 when we both “Swiped Right” on Tinder. LaShawna was about to be transferred to California for work and Jacob was spending time in Alabama and Wyoming, in between on-location work assignments. LaShawna was drawn to Jacob’s quick wit and adorable smile, and Jacob knew from the start LaShawna was going to be someone special. From the time we started chatting, there was no turning back, we talked every day and spent a few months getting to know one another long distance until Jacob flew to California to take LaShawna on their first date! Jacob was adorable and picked LaShawna up for their date with flowers and gifts that referenced jokes and things they had talked about while getting to know each other. The first date was a success, and we continued to date long distance for a couple years until Jacob moved to California. We have spent a lot of time traveling and exploring the world together, some of our favorite places include: Budapest, Bangkok, New York and San Diego! We love to see new places and can’t wait to visit more countries (when we can travel again). In the meantime, we enjoy living in Atlanta, and were thrilled to add a new member to our family (Bailey) in 2017. Bailey (best dog in the world) is near and dear to our hearts and was the perfect addition to our pack.
COVID has brought some interesting challenges and changes to our wedding planning, but the one thing that has remained constant is the date (oh, and that we love each other!). June 12th is a day we chose before we were even engaged, it represents Loving Day. A day that interracial marriage became legal across the United States. The Supreme Court Case, Loving V. Virginia (1967) resulted in the Supreme Court over ruling states authority to ban interracial couples from marrying. This ruling made it possible for our marriage to be recognized in the state of Georgia where we currently reside.
