Our Story

It was a snowy, wet, mid–March Tuesday afternoon. After a long workday, I headed toward Broad Ripple to grab a drink. I ended up at Red Key Tavern, a spunky hole in the wall: my type of place. I ordered a margarita, likely the first anyone had ordered in this bar in years and found the nearest corner to avoid people. Soon after taking a seat, I heard a loud screech. I ignored it, but the BOOM that followed told me I shouldn’t have. I stopped scrolling through snapchat and looked to my right. The place was in flames! And here I am, in the corner furthest from the only door, dazed, confused, and scared for my life. As the flames spread, I knew I wasn’t making it to the door. So, I looked for nearest window; it was to my right! But all I could see was a piercing shade of blue. I began walking to the window when the blue changed to a shade of green. Suddenly, the window shattered, and I blacked out. When I awoke minutes later, my vision was blurred. That blur slowly took the form of two blue–green ovals. Though I didn’t know it then, I was looking into the eyes of my knight in shining armor, my love, and my husband to be. I soon learned that a complete stranger had been walking among the commotion when he veered right, toward the same window that I was trying to reach! Through the glass, he saw the confused look on my face and knew I was about to pass out. This stranger then took matters into his own hands. He picked up a nearby brick, shattered the glass, and rushed into the flames. Being the boss that I am, I couldn’t let a little inferno ruin our first meeting. So, I followed him to a nearby bar where we grabbed a drink. We also decided to play pinballthe first time I kicked his ass. After thirteen months of continuous ass-kicking, he learned that he was willing to lose for the rest of his life, as long it would forever be to me. Though this may be a little left of our true story, it’s definitely in the right direction. #Bumble
