After their divorces Anna and John both found themselves on an online dating platform. Aimlessly scrolling and swiping left or right on people. And one day, they matched! For Anna, it was John’s tattoos. For John, it was Anna’s smile. However it didn’t last long, as Anna ghosted John! A year later, they were both aimlessly swiping again and matched a second time. After about 3 hours of texting, they decided they didn’t want to wait and planned a date for that night. Anna told John she wanted a good burger, he immediately knew he had to take her to King’s Place Bar and Grill. They talked about everything from favorite colors, to deal breakers and future plans/goals.
Anna and John both really wanted to check out Black Sand Beach in Silver Bay, MN. They decided to look at the camp grounds and got lucky that they had a cancellation for the season! So John booked it and they began to plan their trip north for a weekend away. They got up there late Friday night and spent all day Saturday exploring, hiking and driving. They drove up the north shore (damn near to Canada!) stopping at look outs, light houses and little shopping areas. The weather was perfect for October. At one point, while sitting on some rocks at the Grand Marais lighthouse, Anna made a joke about how it would have been the perfect weekend to propose. Little did she know, that was John’s plan all along! They eventually headed back to the camper and were exhausted. It started to rain outside and Anna figured they were just staying in for the night. But John kept pushing that they had to go find food and insisted they check out the look out that he saw signs for in Silver Bay. Very crabby, Anna finally got up (it was a long day!). They walked through this skinny path in some trees to find the Silver Bay Lookout. On one side, you could see the city, the other side you looked out over Lake Superior. It was beautiful, however, we had seen so many things that day. It was all kind of blurring together at this point. Anna went to walk back to the truck and realized she didn’t hear her dogs walking behind her, so she turned around and there was John down on one knee with Anna’s boys (her dogs) beside him. Nervously laughing in shock, Anna starts telling John “What are you doing? Get up! Yes! When did you have time?! The ground is wet! Get up!” While laughing, John slid the ring on Anna’s finger and just like that, they were engaged!
