We met on Mutual (a dating app for Mormons) at a time when Kylee was getting burned out on dating and Jake was just getting back into it. We started talking, and we texted all day every day for two weeks before our first date. Jake was early picking Kylee up (which she thought was adorable), and she remembers being extremely intimidated by how tall he was (he's 6'3", she's 5'2".) He (unknowingly) brought her to one of her favorite restaurants for dinner. It was pouring outside and this was early COVID, so we had to wait outside for our table, and Jake was the perfect gentleman by standing with his back to the rain (getting totally soaked but not complaining in the slightest) so Kylee would stay dry. We talked and ate and laughed a ton, and realized we had so much in common (we even ordered the same thing for dinner.) Then we went to Leatherbys for ice cream, and talked and ate and laughed some more. We ended up spending hours talking and hanging out that first night, but neither of us had realized how much time had passed because we were having such an amazing time.
I'm pretty sure I (Kylee) will never get sick of telling this story. It happened on a random night when we were hanging out on the couch, being cheesy and staring into eachother's eyes. I was actually feeling pretty terrible, I had just caught a pretty nasty bug, and despite what Jake will say, I know I looked like an absolute mess (imagine it - sweatpants complete with holes, hair that I'm 99.9% sure did not get brushed that day all smooshed up in a messy bun.) Jake randomly said, I need chapstick but I think I left mine in my truck. Anyone that knows me knows that I keep at least 10 chapsticks within arms reach at all times, so I told him to just use one of mine. But he wanted his "plain chapstick", so he went out to his truck to get it (and anyone that knows Jake knows how stubborn he is and that this is absolutely a normal thing for him to do, so I didn't question it in the slightest.) He came back in putting his chapstick on, and then this is where I get fuzzy on the details because Jake started getting weirdly fidgety and I was like, wait I think something's up. He sat back down on the couch next to me and started talking to me (I think he asked, how much do you love me, to which I responded something like, I don't know I can't quantify that), and then he said, I can't wait any longer, and he pulled out the ring box, and knelt down, and asked me to marry him. And I just freaked out, saying OHMYGOSH over and over and hugging him. When I finally slightly composed myself I let him put the ring on me (it is absolutely gorgeous and it's my favorite of the ones that I showed him), and then I went back to saying OHMYGOSH over and over and hugging him again. He told me that he had something else planned and was going to ask me another day, but lying there staring at me, he didn't want to wait any longer. And honestly the way it happened was perfect, and I just can't stop smiling every time I think about it.
