It’s 2019, so let’s be honest. The two met on a dating app three years ago. Larry’s sweet smile caught Maureen’s eye at first glance so she scrolled through his profile. The last line made her heart skip a beat. It read “you’ll never walk alone”. She couldn’t believe it! Lyrics from the 1945 Rogers and Hammerstein musical, Carousel! Could it be that she had at long last found her musical theatre loving beau?! Not exactly. She would come to learn later that the Liverpool soccer team adopted the tune as their fight song after Gerry and the Pacemakers famously recorded it in 1963. Nevertheless, music brought them together and neither Maureen nor Larry were disappointed. On that first date, they talked music, 80’s movies, their mutual affinity for greek culture, and much much more. Larry says he realized right there at Press Grill in the Short North that he never wanted the conversation to end... and thus began the best summer of their lives. They spent many evenings playing guitars, singing, cooking and going to see live music together. Unfortunately, as the summer came to a close, Maureen moved to Detroit to work in a theatre for a year and both wondered whether or not the relationship would survive. Larry took the bus on weekends to see her. They talked every night for hours on the phone. They spent their first holidays together, introduced each other to their families and their love grew strong. Now, they share an apartment in Columbus and are ready to begin their adventure in marriage reminding each other daily, “you’ll never walk alone”...
