The Beginning

Like Ships In the Night

Unbeknownst to either of us, we were steps apart, sleeping in the same house before we ever laid eyes on one another. Linda was there at her friend's house and I was in town for an event and decided to stay at my godsister's that first evening. Before turning in for the night, my godsister warned that if I saw someone in the hallway, it was just her friend staying for a couple of days. Thought nothing of it and was gone the next morning without ever seeing Linda and certainly without knowing this was the future I had dreamed, prayed and hoped for.

Courting is Not a Lost Art

Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fond

At the beginning of our courtship, I was living in Dallas and Larry was in Houston and anyone that knows Larry, knows he is not a fan of DFW. Despite that, he began making the sacrifice to venture to Dallas when time permitted and Rockwall became one of our favorite hangouts. In between visits we texted, called and learned one another, often asking questions to delve into each others lives and learn what made each one tick. Through this courtship we found truth, trust and transformation. It tore down walls and built connection. The distance was difficult at times, but it was also a blessing as it forced us to be intentional and cherish every moment spent and find ways to nurture the relationship in moments apart.

She Said Yes!

Situational Awareness

Larry planned an elaborate proposal, including the girls, and thinking of every detail. The girls thought they were going to photoshoot and me, a pre-gala mixer. Upon arrival I was surprised to see the girls there, but also thankful for the idea of having a photoshoot with all of us. The photographer walked us to where the photoshoot was taking place and as they will tell you, my situational awareness was null and void. I literally walked passed someone filming, a large poster with pictures of us, the beautiful, gigantic heart, roses and candles; I was oblivious to it all. Wrapped up in taking photos, I literally stepped on the aisle and began posing. After a few pictures, the photographer asked me to turn around and that's when my emotions took over. I finally saw everything - the heart, the roses, the candles, and the bright neon sign that read, "Will You Marry Me?" Fully immersed in the moment, Larry began his proposal speech and before he could even ask, I had already said, "YES!" He chuckled and got down on one knee and he asked if I would marry him, which I emphatically responded again, "YES!"
