It was a Summer Friday afternoon in August, and Maddy was walking around NYC with her best friend Emily (see the Bridesmaids section!). They made their way to the charming cocktail bar Mother's Ruin in Nolita and sat outside while sipping on a few drinks and enjoying the weather. All of a sudden, Maddy feels a tap on her shoulder. She turns around and sees 3 guys standing there in athletic clothes, one carrying a basketball. One of the guys says to Maddy "You should go out with my friend Chris, he played basketball at St. Joes". Nice. Maddy made small talk with these guys, telling them that she is familiar with St. Joes because she is from the Philadelphia area. She ended up establishing a mutual acquaintance with this guy Chris - a girl she played lacrosse with whom he knew through the St. Joes athletic program. Maddy ended up giving Chris her number and they went their separate ways with their friends. A few days later, Maddy got a text from Chris. They chatted briefly but didn't make any concrete plans to hang out (Chris wanted to do a "group hang out" and Maddy wasn't too into rallying a group of friends to hang out with randos). Fast forward a few weeks, and Maddy is on an Amtrak home for Labor Day with her best friend Maggie (see Bridesmaids section again!) and tells her about this guy she met a few weeks back. They find him on Facebook via the mutual acquaintance, and see that he's friends with one of her current coworkers. About a week later at work, the coworker told Maddy to definitely go out with Chris because he's a great guy. Soon enough, Maddy and Chris went on their first date at Vamos in the East Village (since closed!) and got margarita's. They then bought tall boys and drank them on a park bench in Stuytown, where Maddy was living at the time. This is where they shared their first kiss...and flash forward 4 years, where Chris proposed!
