How We Met

Exactly five years to the date of our "I Do's," on October 12th, 2014 we met in the woods... with chainsaws. We were both students at UW Stevens Point where chainsaw wielding students took to the woods every fall to earn a few extra class credits by cutting down a few pine trees over the course of a weekend. Andy was helping to run this strange, fantastical , improbable class filled with folks eager to let a little more sunlight shine on the forest floor. Hannah was taking this weekend class, also known as Pulpcut, and on the last day of the weekend wound up with Andy as her ever studious instructor. One thing led to another, talks were had, hikes were trekked, bike rides were taken, and they realized that they were onto something special. Who knew pine trees (aka Pinus Resinosa) were so romantic?

The Proposal

July 3rd, 2018 was hot, sticky, and filled with fireworks. Andy and Hannah packed bags, faithful dogs Dot and Betty, completely legal fireworks, and s’mores supplies into the truck with plans (at least those known to Hannah) of spending the Fourth of July relaxing by the fire, doing a little fishing, and seeing the fireworks that evening while enjoying a cool beverage under the stars. Earlier that year, the couple was blessed to become the owners of 14 beautiful acres along the Plover River. This would soon become 60 acres and the plans to build a home for their dogs…and their family. After relaxing in the shade the couple decided to take a stroll around their newly graveled driveway which had gone in a few weeks prior. Wood stakes still lined the road and Andy suggested that they should probably be pulled out. After pulling a couple stakes and realizing that she was the only one partaking in this arduous task, Hannah turned around to find out just why Andy wasn’t participating. There Andy was, on one knee and asked her to marry him. Of course the answer was, “Yes!” The rest of the evening was spent watching fireworks under the stars on a blanket…with Betty and Dot close by.
