How We Met

written by Kelsie

Fun fact: we have known each other since we were babies, being that our mothers are best friends and were pregnant with us at the same time. While one lived in Texas and the other in California, we had not seen each other since my last visit to Redding when we were in elementary school. After about 18 years of no communication except happy birthdays on Facebook walls, I messaged Micah on Snapchat while he was dealing with a not so happy season in his life. This began a never ending conversation via text message, Snapchat, Facetime, even email, for a few months before sweet Micah decided to fly to Texas with a goal to properly take me on a date and ask me to be his girlfriend. Neither of us had any idea just how much that day would change our future. I normally wouldn't encourage anyone to fall in love with someone they met through Snapchat, but for this guy I think I'll make an exception.

The Proposal

written by Micah

If I were to write down everything else that's happened from February 2017 to now, my character limit would exceed past several pages. Back in November 2017, I wanted to start looking for a ring and to make her and I official; unfortunately yet fortunately I didn't find it until December but it was the ring that spoke the most of her. I found it and saw that it was her and no other ring that I looked at even came close to the one on her finger now. So fast forward to February 13, 2018, it was the day to finally give her my forever. In the beginning I told people that I would be taking her to Wedding Rock over on the coast, but I changed the location to one that meant the world to both of us- a bridge that overlooked Mossbrae Falls. As far as she knew, we were only taking photos with a friend. Anyone can imagine I am a quiet mess, and she took notice to that as we were walking to the bridge. Little back story, I hid the ring in a first aid kit in my backpack and not my pockets because while she may not look in the kit, she would definitely feel the box in my pocket. Anyway, we get to the bridge and my buddy was not there yet to capture the moment happen so her and I walk down to the waterfall. As we are down by the falls, and I happen to see my friend waving to me to get me to come back up to the bridge. I lead her back up to middle of the bridge. You can imagine that the nerves have reached their final peak and I began fumbling for the ring, barely able to keep what I was about to do hidden from her. Amongst the feelings of nervousness, my foot falls through the bridge and frightens her to no avail. At this point I knew it was go time. I bring her over to where I’m standing and while she is turned around to look at the waterfall I drop down to one knee. Her first impression was that I was kidding but then she saw the box and immediately starting saying “ no, no, no”. Obviously, she meant yes and here we are moving closer and closer to where we’ve wanted to be.

The Story Behind the Ring

written by Kelsie

If you've known me for the past several years, you know that I have always talked about wanting an opal wedding ring someday. It's my birthstone and it's like a sunset in a jewel so it makes sense. By the time I had fallen for Micah and we had gone over the subject of possible engagement, I had sent him a few ideas on Pinterest, none of them even being close to opal. My only request was that if my ring were to somehow be placed alongside other rings, I would want to know exactly which one is mine. When he got on one knee and showed me the OPAL ring he had chosen with no assistance, it was just another detail in our story that couldn't be more perfect. He had told me later on that he had been looking at rings like the ones I had sent him for months but none of them looked like me so he stopped for a few weeks. When he came across the opal with rose gold, he said it was perfect. Never once did I have to tell him. That's how you know.
