We got hitched!!

After Covid-19 threw a wrench in our wedding plans we made the very disappointing decision to cancel our Austin, Texas wedding. Instead of putting our love on hold, we decided to go get hitched in Las Vegas! We made a quick decision and only informed our best man (David Hanson), our maid of honor, (Shannon Murphy), and the friend that introduced us to each other 11 years ago (Jeff Oxford). We gave our friends 1-day notice to purchase flights to meet us in Las Vegas at The Little White Wedding Chapel. Without hesitation, our friends hopped a flight and watched Elvis walk LaRae down the aisle. It was short, it was sweet, it was perfect. After the ceremony, we had our reception on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas. We popped in to a little piano bar where they played our wedding song; Beast of Burden by The Rolling Stones. We were introduced as man and wife to about 15 strangers and danced to our song. We are proud to say that we have a fun and spontaneous kind of love. We are so happy with our decision to run away and elope, but we look forward to hosting you all for a reception in ATX in the future (2021, fingers crossed). We were first introduced to each other at Elephant Butte Lake by our groomsman, Jeffrey Oxford, on July 4, 2009! (Thanks Jefe!). We never expected that in 2017 we would meet in the same place again, but this time was different <3. We reconnected only to find out that each of us had already made plans to move away from New Mexico. Tyler left for Austin and I left for Washington, D.C. After 6 months of a long-distance relationship, Tyler finally broke down, kidnapped me from the D.C. cold weather, and we made a 26 hour drive to our new home in Austin. The rest is history!

After all the wonderful vacations we have been on together, I always knew I wanted to propose to LaRae on a beach somewhere. I came across flights to the Bahamas and boom, the plan was in motion! I did my best to discreetly ask questions about how she wanted her ring to look and after going back and forth with family and friends I had got the ring just in time for our trip to Nassau. The day before we were scheduled to leave, I go to check us in for our flight and it appears only I have a flight booked to the Bahamas. Trying not to panic, I started trying to book her ticket without her seeing how distressed I was. I almost ruined my whole plan! Of course, the flight was sold out. After hours of trying to keep my cool and searching for a new destination, one seat opened up on my flight and I was able to book it for her. Finally, we were on our way! Once we arrived in the Bahamas the weather was beautiful and LaRae couldn't wait to get to the beach. So we loaded up a bag and made our way to a couple of shaded beach chairs. After relaxing with a couple of coconut drinks and laughing about how bad I am at planning vacations, with shaking and sweating palms, I pulled the ring out of our bag and got down on one knee. I asked this beautiful woman to spend the rest of our lives together. All we can remember after that was Rum Coconut Drinks and our cheeks hurting from smiling so big. Cheers!
