In the Fall of 2012, Paul and Lani met online through OkCupid. Paul messaged Lani with a quip about her aversion to pickles and they had their first date at the York in Highland Park. Not soon after, Paul and Lani became an item and spent their first vacation together in Santa Barbara over New Year's.

One night, Paul and Lani attended the Frogtown Art Walk in their neighborhood. After viewing art and walking around drinking, they watched live music and ate street churros before coming home. Upon arriving back to their house, Paul announced in their kitchen that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Lani and proposed marriage.

In Feb 2019, they realized the perfect way to tie the knot. Journeying back to Santa Barbara they married at the Santa Barbara Courthouse.
