We met through mutual friends at the Seton Church Festival going into our freshman year of high school. We exchanged phone numbers and stayed in contact for a while, occasionally bumping into each other at get togethers. Right before our junior year of high school, I reached out to Dan, letting him know I'd be attending Catholic Memorial in the fall. We picked up right where we left off and became best friends. Despite going to different colleges, we stayed in touch. After spending most of our breaks together or visiting each other at our universities, we decided to give dating a try. Through busy schedules and long distance, we knew we weren't just continuing a relationship. We were building the foundation for the rest of our lives.
We had both wanted to visit Apostle Islands for years. In late June of 2019, we took a trip out to Bayfield, WI. After waking up to see the sunrise on Lake Superior, kayaking through Red Cliff, and hiking over the sea caves while singing The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, we took a ferry over to Madeline Island for dinner. We dined by the lake, enjoyed some live music, and accidentally crashed a wedding reception (because we heard live music). The wind began to pick up and I wanted to head back into town. Dan and I waited for the ferry under a gazebo, talking about how fun our trip had been. It was then that he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. We are thrilled to celebrate our marriage surrounded by the people we love.
