As mentioned in the banner at the top, we have decided to postpone our wedding reception. The health and safety of our friends and loved ones is our top priority. We will be getting married 08/08/2020 with our immediate families and will provide all remaining guests with updates once we determine the reception details. We likely met on the first day of preschool! Our moms could probably tell you the story better than we can. One of Jackie’s favourite stories to tell about us when we were younger is that Lane kicked me in the face when I walked in front of him swinging. I must have forgiven him because 13 years and eight months later I became his girlfriend.

It’s 11pm on the Monday of May long weekend, we are off school for the week due to a teachers strike. I’m watching a terrible reality show on MTV and scrolling Facebook. I get a message from Lane, “are you single?” My initial response is “Is this Cassie?” Lane responds with “No, it’s me.” We proceed to talk until 5 am and I haven’t stopped talking his ear off since! He must not mind to much since eight years and two months later we got engaged!

Nothing about our relationship has been traditional and our engagement story is no different. We had been talking about getting married and buying a house for almost two years. In those two years I had graduated university, we had both gotten jobs, bought dirt bikes, and a camper. We knew the next step for us was marriage or a house. So that Sunday on our way home from the lake we were talking about the future and decided that becoming husband and wife was the next step in our relationship (and we still ended up buying a house two and a half months after this conversation.... oops)! We went and got a ring eight days later and started to tell our families a wedding was no longer just a someday plan. 22 years and eleven months after we first met, we will become husband and wife, and 364 days later we will be celebrating with all of our loved ones and family!
