Travel to the Vineyard

Getting there can be a bit of an adventure! There are several ways to get to the island. For those who are coming from out of town, we've outlined some options below from most to least expensive. One! You can book your flight from your point of origin to MVY Airport. Two! You can fly into Boston Logan Airport and take Cape Air from Logan to the island. Three! Fly to Boston, take the Peter Pan shuttle to the Steamship Authority Ferry, and voila you're there (this is the Lyle Family most used method of transport). Folks coming from nearby, the Steamship Authority is the only ferry service to Martha's Vineyard if you are bringing a car. We HIGHLY suggest you make a reservation the day the window opens which is January 17th, 2021! For those of you who would like to rent a car, we suggest you do so on-island. Rental cars are available from Hertz and Budget. We suggest you book one well in advance. We've also listed several lodging options below! BOOK EARLY as these book up quickly!

Travel Note

Steamship Authority

Car reservations open at 5am on January 17st, 2021! Book as soon as you can! Passenger tickets are $8.50 each and can be purchased in the ferry building before you board. Sadly, you CAN'T purchase ferry tickets online or in advance. Fortunately, they do not sell out. So no stress. You will want to take the ferry to Oak Bluffs if possible however if the ferry to Vineyard Haven lines up best with your bus, you can always take a taxi, Lyft, or Uber from either port.

Travel Note

Peter Pan Shuttle

If you're coming in from Boston Logan airport, when booking tickets for the Peter Pan Bus use BOSTON LOGAN as the departure point and WOODS HOLE as your destination (it will drop you off right in front of the boat). Shuttles generally arrive 15 minutes prior to a ferry departure, and you can buy tickets in the ferry building.

Travel Note

Cape Air

Cape Air is the regional airline that make the most flights to the vineyard. They operate a fleet of small "puddle-jumpers" We reccomend you make your reservations as these too book up! (Are you noticing a trend?) There are other airlines you can fly to the vineyard, including JETBLUE. However, their schedules become less frequent in the fall, so we can't speak to availability, but it's worth looking into.

Rental Car

Car Rental

Budget and Hertz offer car rentals on the island. They both have locations at the airport and Budget also rents from an office in Oak Bluffs. Book early as these reservations go fast and are limited.
