In the summer of 2021 Josh and Daniella signed up last-minute to attend Camp Neshama, a Jewish weekend retreat hosted by Pico Shul. Both signed up in hopes of connecting with other Jewish professionals. Josh signed up to be a passenger, along with two others, and Daniella, a driver (Daniella is still listed as "Daniella Mizrahi - Camp Neshama Driver in Josh's phone). The two chatted in the front for most of the 2-hour drive while the others listened to music or took phone calls (awkward!). Josh would later tell Daniella that he found her interesting and a good conversationalist. Daniella would later tell Josh she appreciated the fact he could hold a conversation, but thought they weren't on the same page observance wise. After the weekend retreat, a group stopped at a lake to see the sunset and chit-chat. Daniella and Josh had a nice moment at the lake, speaking in Hebrew and talking about their time in Israel. Little did Daniella know, but Josh always wanted to marry an Israeli woman...
After the lake hangout, Josh and Daniella and two other passengers headed back to LA. This time, Daniella's new friend was in the passenger seat lamenting to the whole car about a guy she met at camp that weekend. She wasn't sure if she should accept his offer to go on a date, overthinking the "what ifs'. At that point, Daniella interjected with, "Go on one date with the guy, you don't have to marry him!" So, Josh, who can be overly analytical and hesitant when it comes to relationships, told himself, "Get over yourself Josh, just go on ONE date with Daniella, you don't have to marry her!". That week, Josh asked her out on a date and so began the courting period. Daniella wasn't sure about Josh's Type A personality and Josh wasn't sure if Daniella even liked him. It wasn't until their fourth date when Josh took Daniella to one of his favorite spots in LA to walk along Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica that things started to turn around. Following the date, they began taking some Jewish growth classes together through Rabbi Teller and The Community Shul slowly bonding over Shabbat dinners, awkward classmates, and Jewish topics, and they continued to develop their relationship by traveling together, going to theater and sporting events, dinners out on the town, and connecting through their many shared interests.
On October 23rd, 2022, a little over a year after they met, Josh would take Daniella back to their “fourth date spot” and propose to her at sunset, so I guess in the end, “You don’t HAVE to marry the person,” but by taking that pressure off it led to the start of a beautiful relationship. And here we are! We're so happy that all of you are able to take part in our day, whether if that was coming to the engagement party, the wedding, the sheva brachas, or celebrating in any way that you can with us. We look forward to seeing you all soon in Malibu! Love, Josh and Daniella
