Glacier is one of our favorite national parks (among many!), which is why we chose to get married in the area. The wedding venue is located near the park but in order to truly experience Glacier, consider arriving early or staying after the wedding to explore East Glacier, West Glacier, or both! Located very close to the western side of Glacier National Park on the south fork of the Flathead River is one of the largest concrete arch dams in the United States. The Hungry Horse Dam stands at 564 feet tall and offers visitors a rare opportunity to walk or drive across! The reservoir is located high in the Rocky Mountains and is surrounded by more than 25 mountain peaks. Landon and Ellen's Recommendations: Taking a scenic drive or walk to the reservoir and over the dam! For us, this was a hidden gem of the area and well worth the short drive from West Glacier, MT. A great spot to check out while you are in the area!
Just a short drive from the wedding venue, Flathead Lake is the largest natural lake in the western United States, covering over 200 square miles! The Flathead Valley offers tons of things for guests to see and do. Landon and Ellen's Recommendations: Kayak or Paddleboard Rentals & Tours Kayaking and paddle boarding are the perfect ways to get out on the water and truly experience Flathead Lake. Sea Me Paddle offers tours and rentals from two locations on the lake for your to best enjoy the pristine beauty of Flathead. http://www.seamepaddle.com/index.html Flathead Lake Brewing Company Enjoy views of Flathead Lake while sampling a few brews at the Flathead Lake Brewing Company's Bigfork Brewery and Pubhouse. Flathead Lake State Park There are five units of Flathead Lake State Park that provide areas for hiking, wildlife watching, and swimming. Visitors can also use highways 35 or 93 to drive around the lake.
Located just one hour from the wedding venue and even closer to the west entrance of Glacier National Park, Whitefish is located in the northern Rocky Mountains and offers an abundance of opportunities to explore the forests, mountains, lakes, and culture of the region. Landon and Ellen's Recommendations: Raft the Middle and North Fork of the Flathead River There are four companies near the western entrance of Glacier National Park that are licensed to provide either half-day or full-day rafting trips along the border of the park. Tour the Great Northern Brewery Enjoy great beer with great views of the mountains! Whitefish Mountain Resort Famous for its skiing, the Whitefish Mountain Resort also boasts Zip Line Tours, an Alpine Slide, as well as Scenic Lift Rides up and down the mountain. Whitefish City Beach Whitefish Lake is a 7-mile glacial lake located right in town! The park offers a sandy beach and designated swimming area.
Located just north of Glacier on the Canadian side of the border, Waterton National Park offers plenty of scenery and wildlife for visitors to enjoy.
