The heart of Old Town, King street is lined with shops and restaurants. Stop in to Bluprint Choclatiers for some awesome truffles, have a pint at O'connell's or just head down to Waterfront Park (where Matt and Emily got engaged) and check out the Potomac. Emily also suggests visiting Fibre Space if you like yarn and Matt is partial to the Taco Bell Cantina for obvious reasons.
Del Ray is an Alexandria neighborhood located just north of Old Town. Come check out Mount Vernon Avenue, or "The Avenue," which has plenty of shops and restaurants to explore. We highly recommend stopping at Stomping Grounds for biscuits, Swing's for a good cup of coffee, and Bon Vivant Farmer's Market for a fresh meal.
Located on the Alexandria waterfront, this historic naval munitions factory has been converted to studios and galleries for local artists. Come for the art, stay for the torpedoes and the small archaeology museum!
Way more exciting than it sounds, plus it has the coolest atrium in the city.
The Mount Vernon Trail is an 18 mile bike path that starts in Arlington (north of Alexandria) and ends at Mount Vernon. If you choose to go south from the access point at Jones Point Park you'll walk over miles of marshland. Head north to check out Gravelly Point, a park just outside of Reagan National where you can watch planes come in to land!
A Washington, D.C. classic, the Mall is located close to most of the Smithsonian Museums and National Memorials in the city. Veterans Day is Monday, November 11, so there will be many events honoring those who have served our nation over the course of the weekend.
