#ChickenNugget2023

August 20, 2023

Kennewick, WA

How It Started…

Winter of 2021, Kevin and I had been talking via text for a couple days. The conversations were so easy and we seemed to just click right off the bat. December 12th we decided to meet at a Starbucks in Kennewick, WA. I brought Saphira with me as her and I were already in Tri-Cities doing some shopping. I was definitely nervous to meet him for the first time. There was no awkwardness during our time there. Saphira was being her usual outgoing self and trying to talk to everyone in the coffee shop. When we left Kevin so sweetly walked us to my car and gave me a hug goodbye. I instantly knew he was something special and this felt right. From there we kept talking daily. By the time January came around I had a crazy idea that I ran passed Kevin. I asked if he would want to go on a trip to the coast with Saphira and I this spring. Shockingly he agreed. Unknowingly we both told ourselves that this would be a good test of how we are together and if this relationship might work. We had a couple dates between January and April. The end of April is when we went on our vacation together to Lincoln City. We stayed at a really awesome Air BnB on a secluded road on top of a hill so we could see and hear the ocean from the back porch. We had the most amazing time and didn’t want to leave. Already by this point I knew that I wanted to be with him forever. Meeting of family on both sides happened over the course of a few months. Lots of time spent together and growing closer. We started talking about marriage pretty early on. We both told each other we are positive we found the right one. He told me he already knew when he wanted to propose. Somewhere at the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023 I was driving in the car one day and just thinking about how much I love him. I had a thought that he could propose to me with one of Saphira’s crusty chicken nuggets in my car that she had probably dropped at one point and I would still say yes. A week or so later I told him about this thought I had. He found this hilarious. In January we had talked about wanting to get family pictures done. We looked over a few different photographer options, found the one we wanted, and scheduled the shoot for May. The day of our family photo session I spent most of the day getting ready of course, women take forever… everyone knows that. Kevin laid down for a quick nap an hour or so before it was time to go. We drove down to McNary and met with the photographer at warehouse beach. We did a little adventure into the brush for our photos. Towards the end she said she wanted to get a couple photos of Kevin and I together. We did this weird arm swinging thing where he came up behind me, we locked hands, and then he embraced me. She said to do it again but this time Kevin hadn’t come up to me, so I turned around… and there he was one one knee with a dinosaur chicken nugget. I laughed for a good couple minutes straight. He pulled the ring out of his not chicken nugget pocket, and asked me to marry him. I absolutely said yes :) we got some photos with the chicken nugget, then Saphira wanted it in her pocket. The chicken nugget didn’t survive the second pocket lol. Kevin and I made the decision to do a civil ceremony at the court house on April 1st. We had 3 witnesses with us. Our good friends Kayla, Amy, and Ryan. And now the day is arriving where we get to celebrate our love for each other with the rest of our friends and family! Can’t wait to see you there!
