How We Met

New Year, New Love

While Hunter was stationed in San Diego for the Navy, he reached out to friends to find New Year's Eve plans. Through a friend of a friend, he found himself at a party near San Diego State University, where I was attending university. He got a lot more than a new year when he invited himself to that party, and as some might say, the rest is history...

Road Trippin'

Summer 2019

Hunter was getting out of the Navy and planning to start school in Washington. I was moving from San Diego to New York City, NY to start grad school. Hunter volunteered to drive me and all my stuff across the country. He didn't realize that he was about to get very used to moving my stuff across the country. Before the trip, we had not even discussed what would happen when he flew home. Every moment, every stop gave us another reason to stay together, despite the challenges. I think we're glad we did.

The Year of Adaptation

2020

2020, I started out in NYC in my second semester of grad school. A series of unfortunate events led me to fleeing NYC as COVID-19 began shutting the country down. The loss of friends forced me to reconsider what I wanted out of my life. Instead of working in scientific research, I decided that scientific education was the right field for me, I transitioned to a position volunteering for City Year AmeriCorps Seattle/King County, working with kids in a virtual setting. Throughout it all, I had Hunter, and I would have been utterly lost without him. I moved to Washington without a plan and with little hope for my own future. Hunter has been a full-time student this year, working towards a BS in IT, along with being a full-time emotional support person. Together, we created a home in 2020. We followed our dreams, even if we just decided they were our dreams. This summer, we will be moving to Denver, CO so I can continue in education. I have been accepted as a Launch Fellow for Teach for America Denver, where I will pursue a Masters in Education and become a secondary science teacher. Hunter will graduate in 2022 with his bachelor's degree. Getting married is truly the start of a new life together, and we are so honored that you are sharing it with us.
