Laken and Alex met at the gym. Laken was working out and needed help with a machine, she had seen Alex working at the gym. While he was there to workout himself, Laken asked him for help. They began to talk and Laken ended up asking him to join her and her friends at a local pizza restaurant that night.

Alex proposed to Laken on February 24 at a restaurant surrounded by family. He planned for months for everything to go smoothly, he even asked Laken's dad for permission to propose. Alex told Laken that they were having a family dinner with hers and his families. Laken had absolutely no idea that he was going to propose. Near the end of dinner the wait staff had asked Laken and Alex if they would participate in a restaurant promotion, when Laken returned to the table, her family was standing holding signs that spelled "Marry Me" she turned around to see Alex on one knee.
