It all started at the end of our freshman year at Bethune-Cookman University in 2017. One of my college friends and I were sitting outside in the courtyard near the café when Quez and his football teammates walked by. One of his friends, whom my friend and I already knew well, stopped to talk. I noticed Quez and asked, “What’s your friend’s name — the one with the four ponytails?” (He had dreadlocks he always wore pulled up.) His friend called Quez over, and I asked for his name and where he was from. He told me his middle name, so I looked at him and said, “Is that what your mama named you? What’s your real name?” We both laughed, and he asked me about my name and where I was from. Then he made a typical “college boy” comment about girls from Orlando, trying to keep the conversation going. Before he could say much more, I handed him my phone and told him to put his number in so we could both get on with our day — and, well, the rest is history. Two babies, a ring, and eight years later, here we are. ❤️
