Both of us were recently out of serious relationships, and under the influence of friends joined Tinder. I was quite reluctant to go on dates with anyone from the site, but my friend Tish saw my matches and vouched for this 6'3 southern gentleman that I had matched with. Later I found out that he had just joined Tinder that day and I was the only person he interacted with! We began talking through the app, and after a week of him traveling for work, we went on our first date. On Joey's profile it stated he was 6'3, but he also had pictures of him and friends on his profile. In every picture, he was the shortest guy, so I thought to myself he had to be lying to impress this 5'11 volleyball player. I decided to wear flats on our first date as I was completely sure I would be disappointed upon meeting of his height exaggeration. When I walked into Freeman's for dinner, i tapped him on the shoulder, he stood up and hugged me, and I was immediately relieved that he was telling the truth!!! It just so happens that all of Joey's friends are between 6'5 and 6'7, so he really is one of the shortest! We ended up shutting Freeman's down that night engrained in conversation, and we've continued shutting places down together ever since!
While in Asheville visiting my family for Christmas, Joey decided he wanted to go to Grove Park Inn for a glass of wine in front of the fireplace. We had woke up early that morning to drive from Greensboro to make brunch with my family, so after brunch we were exhausted. We ended up napping at my mom's until 6:30pm and woke up with no plans for the evening. Joey asked me to make dinner plans before heading to Grove Park Inn. I was quite confused as to why we would be going to do something on such short notice after a much needed lengthy nap, but he insisted that we go that night. We couldn't get reservations anywhere on property, so we ended up at a little Italian restaurant in downtown Asheville for an 8:30 dinner. Of course my thought on his persistence was that tonight could quite possibly be "the night", but there was no sign of a ring box in his pocket (believe me I kept trying to check it out and given that he had been whipping out his wallet all night made me quite certain it in fact was NOT "the night"). We arrived at GPI around 1030, but there was no open seating in front of the fireplace, so we retired to the area in front of the band playing Christmas music. Finally seats opened up and we made our way to the fireplace! Joey then stated he wanted to take a picture in front of the fireplace, so my heart began to RACE!!! We stood up, handed our phone to a lady sitting near us, and CLICK, FLASH, annnnddd NOTHING (but a picture). He then says he wanted to take a pic in front of the tree. Yep you guessed it, click, flash, nothing. And again on the sleigh outside. We then found our way down to the Sunset Terrace overlooking the cityscape of Asheville. And just when I had given up hope that tonight was "the night", Joey kissed my forehead, told me he loved me, and that he wanted to love me forever. He then dropped to one knee, pulled out of his pocket the WORLD'S SMALLEST RING BOX, pulled out the most beautiful ring, and asked me to be his wife!
