How We Met

Nov 14, 2024

Her Story: It all started on November 14, 2024, with a simple match on Hinge. Something that, at the time, didn’t feel like it would turn into anything extraordinary. I hadn’t dated anyone in two years. Life had been about me and my three-year-old son, Sebastian, and I had grown used to that rhythm. Then came our first date at Il Forno in Frederick. To be honest, I didn’t show up with a lot of expectations mostly because it was my first date using the app. I showed up like it was an interview. I had standards, questions in the back of my mind, and no intention of wasting my time. Daniel had recently moved back from Texas, and I was curious, but cautious. I watched how he spoke, how he carried himself, how he treated me. I was quietly taking notes the entire time. He definitely passed though! With every date after that, I found myself doing something almost ridiculous. I kept looking for a reason not to like him. A red flag. An “ick.” Something that would make me pull back and say, “this isn’t it.” I was so used to protecting my peace that I didn’t know how to just let something be good. But no matter how hard I looked, I couldn’t find it. Instead, I found consistency. I found someone who kept showing up in all the ways that mattered. And slowly, without even realizing it, that “interview” turned into something real. What started as me trying not to waste my time became something I never saw coming, something I didn’t have to question, overanalyze, or guard myself against. Because for the first time in a long time there was nothing to run from and everything to run to. His Story: We met on Hinge on November 14, 2024. I remember standing inside Il Forno, scanning the room, checking the door, and starting to wonder if I had just been stood up. Minutes passed, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe this wasn’t going to happen after all. But what I didn’t know was that she *was* there, just at the wrong restaurant. And honestly, I’m so glad she figured it out and didn’t leave. Because that night ended up changing my life forever. When we finally sat down together, I could tell right away this wasn’t going to be a typical date. It felt more like an interview, like she had her guard up and wasn’t about to waste her time on something that wasn’t real. And I respected that especially because she had a son, Sebastian. Actually, I admired it. It told me everything I needed to know about the kind of person she was. But somewhere in the middle of all that, something real started to grow. Each time we saw each other after that, it got easier, more natural. Walls came down, conversations got deeper, and I found myself looking forward to every moment with her. What started as a chance meeting quickly turned into something I couldn’t ignore. I didn’t just like her, I fell for her. More and more with every date, every laugh, every conversation. And looking back now, it’s crazy to think it almost didn’t happen… all because of the wrong restaurant. But somehow, we still found our way to each other and it completely changed my life.
