Ryan and Rebecca met at an open mic night at Whistlebinkies in Edinburgh in May, 2017. They bonded over a shared affinity for blues music, and throughout the summer spent more and more time together. After Rebecca returned to America, they spent the next four months talking to each other over video chat everyday. Rebecca has since returned to Scotland to see Ryan four times, and Ryan has visited her in Texas twice.

On his latest trip to Texas, Ryan was very insistent on visiting one of Rebecca and his favorite places, Buffalo Bayou Park. A slightly suspicious Rebecca drove him there and became even more suspicious as Ryan was talking about 75% less than usual. After walking for a little while they settled on a bench with a gorgeous view of downtown Houston. The sun was just starting to set, and the weather was clear and crisp. Having found the perfect place, Ryan proposed and Rebecca said yes!
