We don't have an exact date we laid eyes on each other because for as long as we both can remember we have known each other through family friends. The first time we remember seeing each other is at a wedding in 7th Grade. Lainey asked Jenna (Jacob's sister) to ask Jacob to dance... he said no because he was throwing rocks in the pond. Fast forward to high school, we played on the same golf team, went to endless basketball games in the same student section, and even attended dances in the same group. We were always near each other but never connected until Luke (Lainey's brother) gave Lainey the idea of us going on a date together. We started talking and planned our first date to Outback Steakhouse. We talked nonstop that evening and planned to see each other again the next night. The rest is history. We never stopped seeing each other. We joke now about all the times we were in the same place at the same time but it just wasn't our timing yet.
Lainey and Jacob had been planning for a few months to get married. They had decided they both wanted to start their lives together and had been planning out where to live and what the future looked like. There was one small hick-up in the plan... Lainey's dad was out of town and Jacob couldn't propose until he got his blessing. The couple headed off to the beach with the understanding Lainey's dad would be home the next weekend. Lainey had no idea what was coming that week and the surprise that would follow at the end of the week. The two went for a walk on the Thursday evening on the beach. Lainey had tried to convince Jacob to go another night because of the fierce wind and chilly temperatures. Jacob was adamant about going to see the East Jetty's in Destin, FL. The two walked on the beach and as they were headed back to their car Jacob got Lainey's attention and dropped down to one knee. Lainey was in utter shock because he hadn't even asked her dad yet. His reply was "I went to Memphis to talk to him months ago." Lainey was left speechless (a rare occurrence) and she hugged him while screeching "YES!" The two walked back on the beach to ask some strangers to take some very quick pictures of them. Grinning ear to ear the rest of the trip was absolute bliss!
