In October 2023, Grant participated in a roping event in Fort Worth, leading to the couple's first encounter at a bar in the Fort Worth Stockyards, where they exchanged contact information. Although neither Grant nor Lainee took their budding connection too seriously at first, they communicated frequently. Lainee harbored doubts about Grant's claim of living in Goldthwaite, thinking, "This is a small town, and I know everyone. There’s no way he lives here." Fast forward to November 2023, Lainee returned to Goldthwaite to visit her parents. She had a flat tire and needed repairs before heading back to Fort Worth for work. The nearest tire shop was a few miles down the county road, so Lainee went there to get her tire fixed. While waiting, she chatted with the owners of Heads Hardware. As she looked out the window, she noticed a truck and trailer pull up in front of the store. To her surprise, a handsome man emerged, prompting her to think, "I wish I could have his number." When Grant walked into the store, Lainee was astonished to recognize him, realizing, “Oh my goodness, this man really does live here; how else would he know about Heads Hardware?” Grant was equally surprised to see Lainee. They engaged in conversation, and he invited her to dinner. However, Lainee was returning to Fort Worth and wouldn’t be back for a couple of weeks, while Grant was preparing to go to Las Vegas for a roping event. Despite their busy schedules, they began communicating more frequently as they anticipated their first date. Eventually, their schedules aligned, and they went on their first date on December 18, 2023, which turned out to be a resounding success. The couple began spending more time together in both Goldthwaite and Fort Worth. On February 1, 2024, Grant and Lainee officially became a couple, and since then, they have been inseparable.
