How We Met

"Do you want to come to my birthday party?"

Let’s go back to the year 2010. Laila and Mason had both been working for the same company for a little while, but only exchanged pleasantries. Then in April Laila knocked over the first domino of the rest of their lives by asking Mason if he wanted to come to her birthday party. Mason had already made plans to return to Boston for Marathon Monday to celebrate HIS birthday. They discovered that they not only shared the same birthday, but they also both went to Boston College and even lived in the same dorm for a semester. These were the first of many commonalities. There were just so many things for them to talk about and discover. They became close friends, getting to know each other through a love of puns and neverending Google chat at the office (all conversations are still archived) and through their love of live music, seeing a bunch of concerts through the early 2010s. They would celebrate the random holiday - many a St. Patrick’s Day (including their first photo together in 2012), a silly Valentine’s Day, and of course their birthdays. When Laila moved to Charlotte, they lost contact except for occasionally sharing music recommendations and the obligatory Happy Birthday text. Cut to 2015, Laila moved back to New York City, and Mason always knew the best places to frequent, so they started to hang out once again, seeing concerts, going out to eat, clinking cocktail glasses, and even celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and Halloween. Just friends, right? Each weekend at MoMA PS1 Warm Up they rekindled the spark through the beats, art, and characters of New York. She was smitten, he was smitten, and before they knew it they were a couple. Exploring the great city together turned into trips to explore the world. With unforgettable vacations to Portugal and Morocco, Sedona, Telluride, Kenya, Folly Beach, and Japan, they cemented their love for each other, and for experiencing everything possible. They chose Fandi Mata as their wedding venue because the decor reflected one of their favorite trips to Morocco, and they want to celebrate New York City with their closest friends and family. Just like music, trips are so much better when shared with someone you love, and they invite their guests to come celebrate the lights, the sounds, the world, and this place with them as they look forward to the future together.
