Abbie and Jake met at the Windjammer on Isle of Palms.. Jake was there with a group of friends (a usual watering hole of theirs) and Abbie went there with her friend, Julie, just looking for a new place with live music. One of Abbie's friends from college, John Brown, happened to be there and is part of Jake's group of friends. John Brown invited Julie and Abbie over to hang out and after a few too many “stingers” the rest was history. And one of the best parts is, not only did abbie meet Jake, but Julie also met her husband John

As many of you know, it was a long set of months for Jake. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in November of 2022 and had to go through 8 rounds of chemotherapy. Abbie and Jake mostly hid in the house, so towards the end of Jake's treatments they were both itching to get out. Abbie's birthday was March 3rd and Jake planned a trip to take them both to Palm Beach for the weekend. As some of you may know, abbie has great intuition and had her suspicions that the proposal would happen this weekend. So as soon as they got there and Jake hopped in the shower, she went searching all of his bags for the ring. She did not find the ring and felt silly for snooping, so she dropped her suspicions and they continued to have one of the best vacations ever! Abbie’s sister (Hannah) was down in Palm Beach visiting her boyfriend (Tyrone) so Jake and Abbie planned to have dinner with them on one of the last nights. Jake told Abbie that Hannah had made reservations for dinner at The Breakers Hotel. Abbie was a little huffy stating "of course Hannah would pick a place that costs $80 for spaghetti", but was excited to get dressed up fancy for a change since her and Jake are more La Hacienda type people. Jake and Abbie got to The Breakers Hotel early walked around and enjoyed the scenery. Jake suggested we go to this one area, but it was guarded by staff and when Abbie waltzed up and asked if we could go they replied "no" and turned us away. Finally, Hannah and Tyrone arrived and Abbie noticed Tyrone and Jake were acting sketchy (or strange or out of the ordinary). Abbie didn’t realize at the time, but Hannah had the ring all along and made Tyrone carry it in his pocket until he could secretly pass it to Jake at the restaurant. Tyrone was panicking because he was afraid he would lose the ring or abbie would spot it in his pocket and Jake was panicking because the hotel staff just turned us away from the spot he planned to propose at! Jake quickly pivots his demeanor after the boys were able to pass off the ring in the bathroom, and the gang was able to sneak around the guards and make their way to the spot on the beach. As Jake and Abbie walk down to the water, Jake then starts telling abbie “I have to admit something to you” (which is typically never a great line to hear, so Abbie was a bit panicked at this point as well, but let Jake continue)... “Hannah wasn't the one who made the reservation at this expensive restaurant... it was me!" Jake then got down on his knee and proposed!
