This has to be Madeleine's favorite museum in Chicago, specifically the impressionist wing's Monet collection. If you aren't interested in Monet (first off, how dare you), then check out the replica of the Chicago Stock Exchange Trading Room or the Miniature Room exhibit (Jordan's first and only art recommendation).
Venture into Hyde Park for a few hours at the Museum of Science and Industry. Truly something for everyone - Madeleine prefers the Boeing 727 that you can walk around and question pilots on flight safety and protocol, whereas Jordan enjoys the U-505 submarine exhibit. Afterwards, spend the day exploring the University of Chicago (Madeleine's alma mater!) with lunch or coffee at Plein Air Cafe near campus.
A tour of the Chicago River and neighboring architecture is the best way to see Chicago, especially in the fall weather. Leaving from Central Chicago in the Loop, the boat tour will take you up and down the river with a brief history of Chicago (spoiler, the Chicago fire of 1871 is rumored to have begun from a cow kicking over a lantern).
Jordan lived for two years in Lincoln Park, which meant Madeleine and Jordan spent many weekends walking the (free!) Lincoln Park Zoo. Go for the big cats and stay for the beautiful fall foliage.
Some of our favorite nights in Chicago were spent at this speakeasy. There is no sign announcing the Violet Hour, but look for a mural and a line on the sidewalk. Recommend asking for bartender's choice.
Enjoy the street tacos in the outdoor patio, before grabbing cocktails at the Violet Hour. Skip the restaurant's long lines for the to-go window!
Located in the Soho House, a renovated Fulton Market factory turned hotel, The Allis has lounge chairs and couches where you can enjoy mini chicken pot pies, pesto pizza, and a dozen different negronis.
Deep in the heart of West Loop, Bar Siena is perfect for brunch, dinner, and happy hour. Jordan and I spent many Thursday nights sharing a pizza and charcuterie board. For dessert, walk around the corner to Bombobar for crazed milkshakes.
Perfect for lunch (or brunch, the millennial favorite), Revival Food Hall has many options - tacos, barbecue, hot chocolate - to choose from and is an easy, central option after exploring the city all day.
