Lacy and Devin had their very first date at Benny’s Donuts in Corvallis, Oregon in December 2019. They sat at the donut shop talking for hours until the place shut down for the night. In college, Lacy used to have a designated “donut drawer” in her room so when Devin suggested this place as their first date she knew it was meant to be. From then on the two spent a lot of time together. They would pass time throughout the pandemic by making Trader Joe’s pizza, going on walks and admiring their hamster, Barnacle. Devin explained the world of triathlon to Lacy and Lacy would force Devin to watch the CU Buffs play football. As pandemic restrictions were lifted, the two were able to travel together and Lacy supported Devin at various triathlon races in Utah, Hawaii and Mexico. They moved from Corvallis to Bend in 2022 to trade the rain for the snow and Devin has been the best ski instructor Lacy could ask for. They have since added their precious pup, Bungee, to complete their home. Devin popped the question February 17th, 2024 on perhaps the snowiest day of the year. He made posters to set up along the Deschutes River with descriptions of their relationship courtesy of Lacy’s close friends. It was not unusual for Devin to invite Lacy on walks in inclement weather but his insistence on going in a blizzard clued Lacy in on what was about to happen. After cheers from nearby sledders, the two celebrated with donuts and champagne to commemorate how it all began.
