Our story starts fourteen years ago when we met in seventh grade at North Middle School. Brooke was the sweet, innocent girl and Johnny was the cute, cool kid. We sat at the same lunch table and were in the same group of friends. In eighth grade was the first time we started officially being girlfriend and boyfriend. In those days, that meant our parents driving us to the movies and group hangouts. We went into high school as best friends and a young couple. We were each others homecoming date, cheerleader, prom date, friend, and supporter. Our favorite memories come from Friday night football games at Poppy Yoder Field. Brooke made Johnny a treat before the games and Johnny loved seeing Brooke after the game on the field. As with any high school relationship there was drama and silly breakups. However, we always found our way back to each other. College came with its share of trials, but again we found ourselves back together cheering each other on through collegiate sports and academic achievements. The distance between West Chester and Scranton seemed longer than it was, but the distance made our love stronger. We made many trips up and down the turnpike to visit each other, but we both would not have had it any other way. Throughout the 14 years of friendship, drama, love, and fun we always found ourselves back together and better than before. Growing up together, living together, and going through life together has been nothing short of amazing so far. We are excited to forever be high school (some may say middle school) sweethearts.
Told by Brooke: Johnny asked to go to the River rink in Philadelphia. He asked me two days before so I was not expecting anything big to happen. First, we went ice skating and per usual, I almost fell around every turn. Once off the ice we enjoyed a drink and Chickie and Petes. Johnny was calm, cool, and collected the entire time feeding into every question that I had. He suggested that we walk to the Race St Pier and was acting like he didn't really know how to get there and it wasn't a big deal. So I went along with it and we walked the short walk to the pier. As we were looking around at the scenes and buildings, Johnny continued to be nonchalant. After looking at the river, I turned back to see Johnny on his knee. There were tears, smiles, and a YES by the end. Johnny planned it perfectly by having our siblings there to congratulate us and take pictures! The night ended with a dinner and our families celebrating together. It was a perfect day, set up at the perfect time.
