John asked Laura to go for a walk on Wrightsville Beach for their first date. It was mid-Covid so finding date spots could be a little tricky. She had just moved to Wilmington and he had just gotten back from his deployment. Laura got lost in the parking lot and John saw her driving in circles looking for him (it made a lasting first impression). They walked for miles from the pier to the end of the beach. By the end of that walk, they both knew it was something special. When he met Laura's dogs, she knew they could make it. 5+ years later, John took her on a very similar walk at their favorite place and proposed (with their crazy Shepherd Nick hiding in the dunes).
