In 2017, Kyra and Niklas met while working at Fogo de Chão. Our first conversation was about birthdays - Kyra was ecstatic to have birthdays only 2 days apart. Niklas was… impartial to the fact. This little chat led to more late night conversations, we were eating dinner together every night, and eventually, Niklas was taking the bus home with Kyra to make sure that she got home safe (Kyra lived on Colfax… if you know, you know.) Kyra initially thought Nik was kind of a ding dong waiting for her bus since he would often have to wait an extra 30-60 minutes and it would drop him off 5 blocks from his apartment. After some dot connecting, Kyra realized that Nik may have had a crush on her. Kyra asked Nik on their first date - a 11pm rendezvous to play tennis at the City Park courts followed by Sonic for late night happy hour slushies. We watched an incredibly romantic movie, Contracted. Thankfully, Nik was charmed by Kyra’s singing in the shower. Stay by Rihanna has been our couple song ever since. And, 8 years later, our hobbies are also pretty much the same. Tennis is now pickleball, Sonic is reserved for those particularly stressful days, and Niklas begrudgingly watches Kyra’s horrific movie recommendations. And of course, our favorite holiday is the day between our birthdays.
