Our paths crossed in the beginning of our junior year at Villanova University, and we like to say that fate brought us together there. Max was recruited to play D1 soccer for the Wildcats, and Kyra transferred to Villanova as a junior. One fateful night, soon after the start of the fall semester, Kyra went to a party at the soccer house. She'd heard about the cute striker on the soccer team and was hoping to see him there! Some might say it was love at first sight. We hit it off immediately and talked all night. Max learned that Kyra's first car was an F-150 pickup, the same truck he drove... and the rest is history! Over the next few months, we frequently met up after class and soccer practice to study together. Of course, Kyra later found out Max was only pretending to have a lot of school work to spend more time with her. On our first date, the night of a rare supermoon lunar eclipse, we stargazed for hours on campus in the middle of Mendel Field. We are both proud "super-novas” — after Max redshirted his senior year, he played a fifth year of soccer while getting his Master’s in Public Administration; Kyra also found her way back to Villanova for law school and graduated this May. After seven years, four Villanova degrees, two national basketball championships, and one frantic phone call (the day after Max proposed!) to lock down a wedding date at the Villanova Church… we couldn't be more excited to get married at the place where it all began!
On Kyra's 26th birthday, Max took her out to dinner to celebrate and didn't finish his meal for the first time ever. Kyra didn't think twice about it, but in hindsight this was HIGHLY suspicious (Max has been known to cook a steak as a midday snack). When we got back to Kyra's apartment, Max managed to catch her entirely off guard with a surprise "birthday" party with our family and friends. Once Kyra walked into the living room and saw it was covered in flowers, candles, and pictures of our favorite memories together, she realized Max had actually gathered everyone there to pop the question and immediately burst into tears. The expectation for the proposal was high, since Kyra had told Max her only requirement was to be completely surprised, but his execution was flawless!
Some of our favorite memories together include ringing in the New Year watching fireworks over Rome, drinking weinschorles at the Rheingau Wine Festival in Weisbaden, Germany, and skiing the back bowls in Vail. Cape Cod is a truly special place for us and we've spent the last six summers there clamming in the Brewster Bay, eating our weight in lobster rolls, and sunset cruising on Long Pond. We can’t wait for our future adventures as husband and wife — next up, our dream Italian honeymoon!
