Now I won't make you wait because even I'll admit this is pretty comical... Many of you know that Kyra faints, far more often than any normal person. So it only makes sense that the first time Logan and Kyra "interacted", he witnessed her pass out. We were at a Saturday practice just stretching and getting ready to start practice. Of course Kyra pulls her hamstring and begins to pass out so they move her off the stage. Now Logan just so happened to start the play so he's on stage singing and see's Kyra's eyes roll back into her head! She's out cold and he's just like, "Hey? Should we like do something about this freshman?" Anyway, that was that, and they never spoke again until about 3 years later during Kyra's senior show. Now who knows if it was the show, the girl, or the fact that he was reminiscing in his high school days, but Logan just HAD to meet the little mermaid. He did just that, and the rest is history. After working together for years they spent the summer of 2017 hanging out and getting into a little too much trouble ;) Finally 2 weeks before Kyra moved away to college he decided to ask her out. Pretty ironic, because he originally didn't want to date because we'd soon be going off to separate schools! They managed to spend 4 years "short" long distance before it finally happened and Logan proposed on July 10, 2021!
Now it's not a shock to anyone that I've been wanting for this for a while now. So when my sisters decided to have a "sisters day" on July 10th with no consultation from me, I knew something was up. As the day got closer, everyone I cared about started announcing that they had plans going on that day. Logan announced that he would be driving back to Brookings to work a golf tournament. Now Logan is a pretty frugal person and will not drive somewhere to simply work one day then turn around and come back. My sisters had decided that they wanted to get our nails done and simply go to Vermillion for lunch and come right back to Yankton. This was pretty fishy because normally on our sister days, we'll at least go to Sioux Falls. One of the final red flags went up when our work schedule came out. I worked over-time pretty much all summer long at the HFAC, and was fully aware that meant, if I took a day off, I knew I was more than likely gonna work the next day. As managers, we made the schedule and then one of us would put it in the computer and print if off. On the original I was scheduled to manage the 11th, but to my "surprise", when the schedule was printed off, I was no longer scheduled to work. Now I've been telling Logan for months that there was no way he was gonna completely surprise me with this proposal, so I had to make sure I told people I could trust not to tell Logan I had caught on. Who knows! Maybe he would have cancelled the whole thing and made me wait longer! I certainly did not want that to happen! So I told Brianna Geigle, Rachel Houdek, and Liz Schenkel.
The day of was a VERY rainy day. If I'm not mistaken we were even on a tornado watch. Needless to say I was a little bummed out by the weather. I had also gotten a sinus infection earlier that week and didn't want to be sick for what was supposed to be one of the best days of my life! So I did the only sensible thing, and called in a refill on some medication I had from earlier in the year. We got our nails done, which Liv missed because the weather was so bad and she got stuck in Brookings. So I decided to mess with Logan and txted him that Liv was stranded in Brookings and wasn't going to be able to make it to sisters day at all :) Eventually Liv did meet up with us for lunch so all was well. We get done eating and start heading back to Yankton. My sisters decide we're going to go down to the river to take pictures because we had gotten all dressed up. But we had to drop Liv's car off at the house and pick her up so we could all go down together. Mom's car was gone...RED FLAG. We drive down to the river and I see Logan standing on the dock, then I see DeAnn "playing" with her dog at the park and I KNOW it's finally happening. I couldn't tell ya what was said, because I definitely blacked out haha, but it was amazing and the set up was beautiful! The true surprise was when all of our friends and family came out of hiding and started cheering! I am so grateful that they all took the time to come down and support us as we begin this journey!
June 8th- Liv and I drive to Sioux Falls to pick out the ring. Do yourself a favor and ask Liv for the whole story- I basically have a heart attack in the jewelry store. Luckily we got ice cream afterwards. June 9th? I ask Thad If I can marry his daughter... In a parking lot.. at work.. Not how I thought this moment would play out in my head but hey what can you do? June 28th- I pick up the ring.. Against most advice I received, I tell everyone I've ever met. June 29th- Kyra's sisters start mobilizing a plan. How can we get Kyra prepped but also have no idea?.. We decide on the date of "July 10th- Weekend sisters getaway" July: I am blessed in life to have a collective of people who are much more creative and understand how a proposal should go and what would make Kyra the happiest: Honorable mentions- Brittany & Jason O, Rachel H, Liz S, Kirsten W, Kiley F) July 4th- Kyra and I get off work and decide to go do drinks in the pool in my backyard. Unbeknownst to me everyone and their dog decided to get engaged that day- Kyra spent the evening berating me about how we aren't engaged yet and I am tempted to ruin all the planning and just ask the girl now! I ultimately choose not to, and take my verbal lashings as deserved. See you in 6 days lady! July 10th- I get dressed and go to work like any other day in order to take my mind off of what is going to happen later. I pace around the house and explain to Dad about 90 times about what today is about and where he needs to be at what time. My crew of Oscar Jack Kenzie Kirsten Austin and Kiley arrive mid afternoon to help me go set up the dock and we are met with the slowest fisherman we have ever met. We ask him politely to please leave and he obliges.. About 5 minutes before Kyra gets there. The scene is set we are ready for the big time (I of course stain my jeans on a dirty table in the mean time but detail.) Kyra and her sisters walk up the sidewalk, I ask if I can borrow her for a sec, and the rest is history!
