Carl and Kylie were introduced by their good friends Sam and Jared. Kylie was roommates with Sam while attending the University of Minnesota Duluth and Sam was persistent in the idea that Jared had a friend good enough for Kylie. Fast forward to the weekend of college graduation in May of 2021 and Kylie decided on a whim to invite Carl out to the bars with all of their friends because he was finally single. Kylie and her friends made a nervous Carl wait at 310 Pub for over 30 minutes while they gallivanted out the door in an untimely fashion. Kylie can attest to Graduation weekend being her most favorite out of her entire college career because of Carl's go with the flow attitude and desire to ask her out on a real date afterwards. That real date consisted of half-off apps at Applebees. (LOL) Carl claims he chose that as a first date to judge her character. One month later Carl asked Kylie to be his girlfriend while attending his college buddy's wedding. It was a big deal to Carl that Kylie had driven 5 hours by herself just to attend. They had a long distance relationship for a year between Superior, WI and Mound, MN, but tried to see each other on the weekend's as often as possible. In the Summer of 2022 Kylie moved up to Superior to help Carl remodel his house before selling and they moved onto Sam and Jared's property in Holyoke, MN to experience the camper life. Shortly after, they embarked on their 10 day road trip out to their new home. They now reside in beautiful Palmer, Alaska in Carl's beloved uncle Dan's cabin in the woods. Their three dogs Tessa, Colt, and Melon have been loving their new home!

Carl and Kylie were 4 days into their road trip to Alaska when they ran into a series of events while in Montana. Originally, Carl had anticipated driving up to Glacier National Park to watch the sunrise, but that plan was compromised due to the trailer hitch being bent from extreme winds while driving through North Dakota. On the morning of their engagement, Carl had to drive 1.5 hours East to Bozeman to pick up a new hitch. When he finally made it back to the campground and the camper was packed up, they realized that Melon had locked them out of the truck with the spare key inside as well. Carl and Kylie trekked through the rain to the front of the campground in search for help. Once the truck was unlocked, Kylie decided to take the dogs outside once more before hitting the road. This resulted in her being dragged through the mud by their beloved lab Tessa. At this point they were tired, rained on, and muddy, but Kylie still had a sneaky suspicion that Carl was in such a rush to propose at sunset. It was a race against time to make it to Glacier National Park before sunset, where Carl's sister Melissa was waiting with her camera in hand. It turned out to be the most beautiful sunset and Kylie's dream picturesque background to become engaged at.
