It all started during my time at NDSU while working on my master’s in athletic training. I was assigned to NDSU Football for a clinical site occasionally. One day, after practice, I was in the training room cleaning what felt like (and realistically probably was) 100 Gatorade bottles when this guy with curly hair (longer than mine!) walked by and said, “Kyley, where have you been? I haven’t seen you in a while.” The problem was...I had never seen him before in my life. I explained I’d been at another clinical site, then went back to washing bottles, completely confused. Naturally, I asked a fellow student who he was. Later that night, I did what any curious person would do—I found him on Instagram for a little light stalking. That’s when disaster struck: I accidentally liked one of his posts. Cue the fastest unlike of all time. But it was too late. A couple of hours later, I got a DM. From Luke. He asked for my Snapchat, and I gave it to him. We started chatting, and even made plans to hang out after my trip to Arizona. Here’s the twist: while I was in Arizona, a snowstorm hit, and I got stuck there. Luke, convinced I was making excuses to avoid him, didn’t believe me. (Spoiler: I was actually stuck.) When I finally made it back to Fargo, Luke had just returned from an away football game. He asked me to come over that night, even though it was 10:00 PM. I went—and promptly tripped up the stairs walking into his very college boy house. When I got to his room, things only got more embarrassing—his roommates and friends were outside on the porch, watching us through the window. But we hit it off instantly, and before long, we were spending most evenings together. Our first official date was during a Sunday Bears vs. Packers game—a huge deal for Luke to miss just to take me to Target and lunch. So, obviously, I knew he liked me. A few weeks later, on November 28, 2022, we made it official, and the rest is history. Since then, we’ve shared so many milestones. In January 2024, we brought home our puppy Theo. In May 2024, we moved into our first apartment. Then, on August 6, 2024, Luke asked me to marry him! By April 2025, we bought our first home together. Luke is my very best friend, and I can’t wait to keep growing, laughing, and building our life together as husband and wife.
I was in my 4th year playing football at NDSU and kept finding myself staring at this hot athletic trainer. This was back in my prime, where my hair was below my shoulders and me and the boys were enjoying our time living in the house on Broadway. It took me a few months before I worked up the courage to say something to this girl. Finally, after practice one day, I decided I was going to say something. Kyley was in the training room near the sink cleaning the water bottles from practice and I was filling up my yeti water bottle from one of the coolers in the hallway. I was nervous, and knew that I had to make an impression on her. After playing out the interaction in my head a few times, I said "Hey Kyley, where have you been lately?" She seemed surprised that I knew her name and responded that she had been splitting time with the Concordia soccer team and was only at NDSU a few days a week. I said "well we have been missing you here" and that was the end of it. That night I get a notification on my phone that Kyley had liked one of my very old instagram posts. In my head, this was a sign from her that she wanted me to DM her. Come to find out later that she did do it on accident while stalking my page "Weirdo!!!" I DM her asking for her snapchat and we began talking from then on. After talking for a short while, we lined up a hangout at my house after a road game. I met Kyley at the front door and we started walking up the stairs to my room. Somehow, Kyley managed to miss a step and fall face first into the stairs (what an ice breaker). A few minutes later we are talking in my room and all of my buddies are outside on the deck drinking and screaming "Kyley!!" Poor girl was embarrassed. From the first moment we met, there was a different feeling to our relationship. Everything felt so easy and we always had such great conversations. Weeks turned to months and months to years and I am still learning something new about Kyley everyday. She can literally do EVERYTHING. From founding and running a non-profit to knowing every muscle and bone in the human body. From taking professional photos and videos to leaving a huge impact on the kids that she teaches and coaches. Kyley is a special person and I am so lucky to call her mine.
