The Proposal

Can you help me with the ice?

I had been home and on summer leave for less than a week and the big day was here. Ky and I were planning on going to Kansas City for a nice dinner then we were going to go ring shopping the following day. Little did she know, but I had bought the ring months prior when we were together over Christmas break. The morning started with us working out with Fred Roll then immediately after Ky had to take a test for her summer class. While she was taking the test, I was a nervous wreck. I kept calling the restaurant and bar about the plans and couldn’t pick out an outfit! Once I had my outfit picked out I ran into another problem, how to hide the ring. Thanks to help from my family we figured out I could hide the ring and ring box in one of those small elastic fanny packs runners wear if I had my shirt tucked in just right. Crisis averted. It was finally time to pick up Ky from her test. She was tired and a little sassy if you can believe it from her busy morning so what did we do... hit the liquor store for some fireball shooters (I needed it more than her). We arrived to our Airbnb to get dressed and ready for the night. Dinner was at Ky’s favorite restaurant, The Melting Pot, and we had a great meal. I thought she might be getting suspicious so I tried acting like I was tired and didn’t want to go out after. I felt like I was being pretty slick, but she claimed after the fact it made things more obvious. After dinner we walked to The Monarch where the proposal was going to happen. I had coordinated with the bartender before so when I walked in I gave the head nod and it was on. While looking at the drink menu I “slipped off to the bathroom” and met the bartender at another bar in the other room. He shook my hand, poured us two shots of whiskey, and wished me luck. When I came back to sit down he was right behind me with the bucket of ice for the champagne we ordered along with the ring inside. He set the bucket down and asked if I could help with the ice... 😉💍
