The temple sealing is the actual marriage ceremony. This ceremony replaces the typical "walking down the aisle" that most weddings feature. We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (sometimes known as Mormon). In this religion, members of the church have an opportunity to be married together for time as well as for eternity. This means that in the ceremony, we will not be pronounced husband and wife "til' death do us part." Rather, we are literally "sealed" by priesthood authority to be married even after death. This sealing is very special to us, because it means that we can be with each other as well as with our future children forever, not just in this life. We have seen in our own families the special bond this sealing creates, and the importance of family it emphasizes in our everyday lives. For more information, you can follow this link: https://www.lds.org/temples/families-and-the-temple?lang=eng, and you can also contact one of us directly.
Unlike church weddings, the sealing is held inside a temple. For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the temple is a sacred place. Because of this, there are a few limitations on the number of attendees, as well as who can enter to view the ceremony. First, because of the sacred nature of the covenants we are making in the temple, only members of the church who hold temple recommends are permitted to enter. This means that while someone may be a close relative, if they don't have a temple recommend, they cannot attend the ceremony. Second, the temple sealing room only has room for 50 guests. This has made it extremely difficult for us to decide who to invite, because we have so many close friends and family that we wish could be part of this special moment! If you were not invited to the sealing, don't worry. You are welcome to wait outside the temple and cheer for us when we come out! We will also be taking photos outside the temple between 1 PM and 3 PM.
We have so many friends and family that we want to be part of our special day. Because of this, we have also planned a luncheon after the sealing, as well as a ring exchange to take place thirty minutes prior to the reception. This allows for us to share this special day with a larger number of family and friends, even after the marriage ceremony in the temple. If you have additional questions or concerns about the sealing or the schedule, you are always welcome to contact one of us directly!
YES! We love kids! In fact, our venue will have a special room with a large table and a TV where kids can play if they get too antsy. We will have a chaperone there making sure no one gets hurt or makes a huge mess. Kids are allowed to come to the dinner/luncheon and ring exchange we have planned, if you or your significant other has been invited to attend.
